He reminded all 400 property managers at the conference that they were all members of the Ray White family.

“You are a member of a family business and I invite you to always refer to yourself as a member of the family,” he said.

“I always get a thrill when I hear people say they belong to our family. We have a massive family, there’s over 11,000 of us, and I hope you are getting enormous satisfaction and professional endowment and comfort from what we are collectively achieving.

“There’s something very unique about family businesses. We do stand for something, and a family business cannot thrive if it’s not consistent about what is important to us

“Our history should give you all confidence.”

His grandfather opened his business in Crows Nest at the age of 24, and decided to sell anything and everything.

“I can still remember my father going to appraisals and he would always say we will present your property at auction. You might be surprised to know that 25 per cent of all auctions in Australia are conducted through the Ray White network, the next group has eight per cent. We believe in the power of auctions. So great is our determination that we have trademarked the phrase ‘Competition Creators’ across Australia and New Zealand and Indonesia,” he said.

Mr White said leaders have to know what they want.

“You want to know what you want. You want to run a business that you can be proud of. It will bring benefits to the community that you serve, that is the want. First thing in leadership is knowing what you want,” he said.

“Be a good leader and always remember the crucial thing in leadership is knowing what you want and always praise your staff.”
